My purpose for creating this website is to share my creative process and experience with those who care to check in from time to time. I invite you to browse through my portfolio and blog pages and please feel free to provide feedback!
The Birth of My Creativity
Creativity has been a constant in my life. Growing up my mom always had one project or another under way. Whether it was her latest cake creation, hand-painted glassware, or intricately designed edible Faberge eggs, I could always count on her being up to something interesting.
Because of my mother, I enjoy experiencing the creative process through many channels. Photography, writing, cake decorating, graphic design, leatherwork and mixed media art are just a few of the methods through which I’ve enjoyed expressing my creativity. Arts and crafts run through my veins and I’m always discovering new crafts to add to my repertoire. I eagerly await the day I have enough space to start my resin jewelry making project!
Photography – A Lifetime Love Affair
My love of photography began when I was about nine years old. My mom gave me her old Fuji 35mm camera along with a supply of film and the voyage began. My stuffed animals had the honor of being my first subjects. I would strategically arrange them on my bed, framing the perfect shot. From there I moved onto my pet rabbit, then my neighborhood friends and little brother.
I didn’t get my hands on a full-fledged SLR camera until college when my father gifted me an Olympus Digital SLR. I immediately enrolled in photography classes to begin learning how to use my new toy. Since then I’ve secured freelance jobs, worked as a children’s studio photographer, and honed my skills through food, portrait, and nature photography. I continue to grow and learn, approaching each new photographic experience with a fresh pair of eyes and an open mind.
The Write Stuff
Writing has always been something I’ve enjoyed. From an early age I took to creative writing, writing my first book in first grade. For which, may I add, I won an award…
I was always apt at essay writing. I viewed learning the form and crafting the words around the proper essay structure as a puzzle. It was a fun challenge to craft just the right words, phrases and descriptions, then plug them into the essay in the proper way. Words and language are simply intriguing to me. I enjoy seeing the connections between Spanish and English words and their Latin roots. Analyzing words and idioms for their root meaning is something of a hobby for me.
Because of my love of writing, I pursued and earned a Journalism degree. Since graduating, I’ve had the privilege to hold several positions involving news writing, creative writing, and marketing writing. I am very thankful for the opportunity to use this skill which I so greatly enjoy to earn a living.
My other interests include spontaneous weekend road trips with my husband, teaching my pooch new tricks, binge-watching my latest favorite TV show, and whipping up new recipes in the kitchen.
